Community Programs
The 1022 Club
Caring for an elderly parent or spouse is a daunting responsibility. Physical limitations, sickness and the deterioration of mental faculties each present their own challenges. Combined, they often become overwhelming.
The 1022 Club offers an adult day services program that is designed to promote independence in the elderly and deter the need for nursing home placement. It is a community-based center that meets the health and social needs of older adults and their families.
As a program supported by Medical Center Foundation of Hartford, Adult Day Services participants are charged only a portion of the program’s cost. In 2011, the per-day rates of $53, $60 and $66 (based on level of care required) is far below the total $185 per-person per-day rate at a nursing home facility. Even so, that additional expense for older adults on a fixed income or adult children shouldering the cost for their parent’s care can limit the number of people able to participate. In 2010, state funding funding for Adult Day Care service was cut, and many participants don’t have long-term care insurance to help offset the cost — meaning most family caregivers or participants pay out-of-pocket.
The program currently serves approximately 30 families from Washington County, with between 10 and 15 members, age 70 to 100 being seen each day, and the program maintains a staff to participant ratio of 1:4 or 1:5 depending on the day. Your donation would help underwrite scholarships for clients participating in the program. Endowment support at higher levels would ensure the continuation of a program vital to the community.
Some qualify for a special subsidy through the Foundation that generously funds one day of care for every day that is paid for by participants or their families, In 2005, an endowment fund was established, and to date, over $46,211 has been granted to financially assist area families in need of support.

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (S.A.N.E.)
Reports of sexual assault in our area continue to increase. Support is needed to recruit and provide training for new S.A.N.E. nurses, purchase necessary equipment and supplies, and to assist in its efforts to educate the community about sexual assault and prevention.
How does S.A.N.E. benefit our community? Locally reported cases of sexual assault overwhelmingly involve women and children under the age of 18. . In 2010, the number of sexual assaults/domestic violence patients decreased, as a result of education within our community by S.A.N.E. nurses. Six victims were from Washington County, 2 were from Dodge County and 1 from Milwaukee County.
Our S.A.N.E. nurses testify in court cases. During one of these cases the nurse was on the stand for five and a half hours. Had it not been for training in forensic sciences received at a conference in Dallas, the perpetrator would have been released back into our community, possibly victimizing another person.
Please join us to ensure that this program will have all of the necessary funding to help these victims get through this very difficult experience with the best support available.
